Department of Wildlife and Fisheries: The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is the state agency responsible for management of the state's renewable natural resources including all wildlife and all aquatic life. The control and supervision of these resources are assigned to the department in the Constitution of the State of Louisiana of 1974, Article IX, Section 7 and in revised statutes under Title36 and Title 56. Responsibilities related to enforcement of boating safety laws are also assigned to LDWF in Title 34, Chapter 4, Part IV. Prudent stewardship of the state's renewable natural resources contributes significantly to the quality of life of the state's citizens and to the economic well-being of the state. State Parks: This is the official Louisiana State Parks Web site. You will find helpful information for planning your family vacation, camping weekend or RV park getaway. Everything from resorts, camping, boating, cabin rentals, hiking trails, fishing, golf and more. If you want to plan your trip to one of Louisiana’s state parks in advance, reservations may be made through State Park's Reservation Call Center at 1-877-CAMP-N-LA (877-226-7652). The Call Center operates from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is closed on state holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Reservations may be made for cabins, lodges, group camps, campsites, meeting rooms, and rental picnic pavilions; reservations must be made at least 2 days prior to date(s) desired and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Specific cabin, campsite and picnic pavilion locations may be reserved in advance. Facilities not reserved in advance are available to visitors who come directly to the park. "No other state has a more varied or colorful past than Louisiana. The state has been governed under 10 different flags beginning in 1541 with Hernando de Soto's claim of the region for Spain. La Salle later claimed it for Bourbon France and over the years Louisiana was at one time or another subject to the Union Jack of Great Britain, the Tricolor of Napoleon, the Lone Star flag of the Republic of West Florida and the fifteen stars and stripes of the United States. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Louisiana became an independent republic for six weeks before joining the Confederacy. Earlier, in 1803, Louisiana had become a part of the United States because of the region's importance to the trade and security of the American mid-west. New Orleans and the surrounding territory controlled the mouth of the Mississippi River down which much of the produce of the mid-west travelled to reach market. To get the vital region in American hands, President Thomas Jefferson negotiated the Louisiana Purchase with Napoleon...." (click link for full text)
